Chromatic Mayan Studies and Diptychs: works on paper. 2025.

These works on paper are based on drawings from two visits to the Yucantan peninsula, Mexico, early 2025. The works will explore Mayan iconography and also juxtapose this with ancient Greek imagery.

Rape of Medusa, Study No. 1, The Rape of Medusa depicts the moment when Poisedon rapes her on the steps of the Temple of Athena. The painting is with mineral pigments on cotton-rag paper The beauty of her innocence renowned amongst temple virgins, Medusa out-shone all, her radiance brought a blessing and surge in self-determination and piety. Who could not applaud when the sun-god showered Medusa’s golden hair for each deity to marvel this worldly creation. Empowered by her exuberance, she spread her light.

The Rape of Medusa depicts the moment when Poisedon rapes her on the steps of the Temple of Athena. On the steps of Athena’s temple the man-beast with lusting depravity swept her to the ground with one simple gesture. She fought for her life. She was alone, forever alone, a barren territory where the weight in her heart felt like stone, her psyche plunged into Purgatory.
